Hope it helps...
SP of 1st jeans= ₹720
Gain% = 20%
CP= ?
CP= 100×SP/100+Gain%
= 100×₹720/100+20 {Don't do the cancelling out process here!! If u do, then ur maths will be wrong..!!}
= ₹72000/120 {After doing the multiplication and addition, u can carry out the cancelling out process..!!}
= ₹600
SP of 2nd jeans= ₹720
Loss% = 20%
CP= ?
CP= 100×SP/100-loss%
= 100×₹720/100-20
= ₹72000/80
= ₹900
Total SP= ₹(720+720) =₹1440
Total CP= ₹(600+900) =₹1500
As, CP > SP, there is loss.
Loss= SP - CP = ₹(1500-1440) = ₹60
Now, Loss%= {(Loss/CP)×100}%
= {(60/1500)×100}%
= 4%
Therefore, there is a loss of 4%.
