Answer:
We (India) switched over from the British system of units to Metric system of units way back 1962 and its impementation was enacted which became a law to follow metric system for which various units were finalised and are called as SI units. Apart from this for the protection of rights of consumers weight and measure deptt was created which made it mandatry that for weight measurements standard weights certified by it are only used like 1kg,500, 200,100,50,20,10 &5 gms etc., If any trader or seller doesn’t uses certified wts for measurement, it is punishable under the law.
That is the reason why shopkeepers use std weights certified by the authority which is an assurance to the customer of its right.
