Today, a large group of people, along with various women organisations took to the streets and roads in protest for the ever increasing violence against women. The peaceful protest was organised by the Welfare for women's right's organisation, an NGO that helps the victims of any type of violence against women. Their main demand was for the state to pay more attention to the issue and asked for stricter action on the perpetrators.
Violence against women, especially in the capital city has seen a rapid increase in the last couple years. I, for one, is in complete favor of the protest. Being a woman myself, I sometimes find myself targeted by men on the roads and even some respectable looking older man. The eve teasing and cat calls never stop but it is hard for a woman to oppose that alone. So, this mass protest along with many other females provides the platform to share experiences. It also gives us the confidence in knowing that we are not alone in this fight.
