With a government elected by its citizens and that effects every aspect of our lives from schools to health care to homeland security, voting is an important right in our society. By voting, you are making your voice heard and registering your opinion on how you think the government should operate.
The constitution and other laws should establish the allocation of powers and the means by which individual citizens exercise the right to participate in the conduct of public affairs. The right to vote in elections and referenda must be established by law.
The Fifteenth Amendment to the Constitution, one of three ratified after the American Civil War to grant freedmen full rights of citizenship, prevented any state from denying the right to vote to any citizen based on race.
