Air pollution is a mixture of solid particles and gases in the air. Car emissions, chemicals from factories, dust, pollen and mold spores may be suspended as particles. Ozone, a gas, is a major part of air pollution in cities. When ozone forms air pollution, it's also called smog. Some air pollutants are poisonous.

air pollutants:

Carbon monoxide.

Lead.

Nitrogen dioxide.

Ozone.

Particles.

Sulphur dioxide.

These gases irritate the airways of the lungs, increasing the symptoms of those suffering from lung diseases

Fine particles can be carried deep into the lungs where they can cause inflammation and a worsening of heart and lung diseases

These gases prevents the uptake of oxygen by the blood. This can lead to a significant reduction in the supply of oxygen to the heart, particularly in people suffering from heart disease
