भगत सिंह' का जन्म 28 सितंबर, 1907 मेँ पंजाब के जिला लायलपुर में बंगा गांव (जो अभी पाकिस्तान में है) एक सिख परिवार मेँ हुआ था। उनके पिता का नाम सरदार किशन सिंह और माता का नाम विद्यावती कौर था। भगतसिंह के जन्म के बाद उनकी दादी ने उनका नाम 'भागो वाला' रखा था। जिसका मतलब होता है 'अच्छे भाग्य वाला'। बाद में उन्हें 'भगतसिंह' कहा जाने लगा।
