A short note on friction and types of friction
Answers
Friction is the force that opposes motion between any surfaces that are in contact. .Static, sliding, and rolling friction occur between solid surfaces.Static friction is strongest, followed bysliding friction, and then rolling friction, which is weakest. Fluidfriction occurs in fluids, which are liquids or gases

What is Friction ?
The Force acting along with two surfaces in the contact which opposes the motion of one moving object over the other is called the force of Friction.
Types of Force ?
The Force of Friction is of Three types- Static Friction, limiting friction, kinetic Friction.
1. Static Friction :
- The opposing forces that comes into play when one object tends to move over the surface of another, but the actual motion has not started is called static Friction. It prevents the motion and does not allow two objects to slide upon one another.
2. Limiting Friction :
- If you move a heavy Box from one place to another the force required to overcome friction, at the instānt the box starts moving from rest, is a measure of limiting Friction. The static friction at the stage is maximum. The maximum value of static friction is called the limiting friction.
- Hence, limiting friction is the maximum opposing force that comes into play when an object is just at the verge of moving over the surface of another object.
3. kinetic Friction :
When we increase the applied for slightly beyond the limiting friction, we see that the book begins to slide slowly. This does not mean that the force has disappeared in it only means that the applied force is now greater than the force of limiting friction. the force of friction at this stage is called Kinetic Friction. hence current extraction is the opposing friction that comes into play when one object is actually moving over the surface of another.
- (A) Sliding Friction : The opposing force that comes into play when one object is actually sliding over the surface of another object is called sliding friction. For example when a log of wood is moved on the flat surface. It slides, in this case the opposing force is called sliding friction.
- (B) Rolling Friction : The opposing force that come into play when one object is actually rolling over the surface of another object is called rolling friction. For example, when a wheel or a log of wood rolls over the flat surface the opposing force is rolling friction.
