the Swami Vivekananda was a disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa , the first and famous sent from Bengal. As a social reformer, he opposed retrograde social practices like castism and untouchability.

according to him, god is present in every living being and so, serving the most downtrodden people of the society amounts to serving The Almighty himself.

to propagate his ideas, he laid the foundation of Ramakrishna Mission in Belur near Kolkata. The mission set up a number of schools throughout the country opening the doors of education to all sections of the society. Through his speeches and writings, he stressed the ideas of selfless social service which he thought was the best way to attain salvation. He also complaint for the emancipation of women through spiritual practices.
