Short note on United Nations :

The United Nations was formed on 24 th October , 1945 . The main function of the UN is to maintain international peace and security . It also promotes harmony and international cooperation .

➡ The UN has six organs namely : the General Assembly , the Security Council , The Trusteeship Council . The International Court of Justice Economic and Social Council and the Secretariat .

➡ The General Assembly is the legislative body of the UN .

➡ The Security Council is the executive body of the UN .

➡ The International Court of Justice is the judicial body of the UN .

➡ The General Assembly together with the Security Council appoints the Secretary General of UN .

➡ The International Court of Justice is composed of 15 judges .

➡ The Security Council performs functions like military actions , maintenance of security .

➡ The Security Council has 5 permanent members .

➡ The other agencies of the UN are UNICEF ( United Nation's Children's fund ) , WHO ( World Health Organization ) and UNESCO ( United Nations Education and Scientific Cultural Organization .
