Answer:

A silver balll is suspended by a string in a vacuum chamber and ultraviolet light of wavelength 2000Å is directed at it. What electrical potential will the ball acquire as a result? Work function of silver is 4.3 eV. Therefore, stopping potentia is 1.9 V.

Answer:

Energy of photon E=1242/λ(nm) eV=1242/200=6.2eV

E=ϕ+Kmax

6.2=4.7+Kmax⇒Kmax=1.5eV=eVs

Stopping potential Vs=1.5V

The electron will be ejected until potential of sphere equals stopping potential

V=Vs=1.5V
