A single acting reciprocating pump running at 20 rpm has a bore and stroke of 40 cm each.
The suction and delivery heads are 4 and 20 m. The suction and delivery pipes of 20 cm
diameter are 4 m and 20 m long. f = 0.02. Determine the power required if the efficiency is

Answer:

this qns refers to the FLUID MACHINARI.

Explanation:

given data.

N = 20 rpm

bore = stroke = 40 cm

Hs = 4 cm

Hd = 20 cm

diameter D = 4m

length L = 20 m

then,

POWER REQUIRED = ???

now, we know that...

P = ¶×g×Q×H-------------(1 )

where,

¶= row (1000)

g = gravity (9.81)

Q = theoretical discharge (Q =ALN/60)

H = TOTAL HEAD ( Hs + Hd)

now,

Q = ALN/60-----------------( 2 )

:• A = π/4 × D² =12.566 m²

now, from the eqn 2

Q= (12.566×0.4×20)/60

= 1.666 m³/sec

now, putting the all values in the primary equ ( 1 )

P = 1000 × 9.81 × 1.66 × (20+4)

= 390830.4 watt

OR

P = 390.8×10³KW answer.
