3 discount of 10,20,40% discount

we will find net effective discount by :
net effective discount = a+b-ab/100

Case-I 20&40% discount first,,,

net discount = 20+40-(20x40)/100 = 52%

Case -II

& now effective discount of 52% and 10% is
= 52+10+(52x10)/100
= 62- 5.2%
= 56.8%

Given : discount in series of 40% and 20%

To Find :  A single equivalent discount

A) 49%

(B) 52%

(C) 53%

(D) None of these

Solution:

Let say Price before discount = P

40 % Discount = (40/100)P = 0.4P

price after one discount =  P - 0.4P = 0.6P

20 % discount = (20/100)0.6P = 0.12P

Price after total Discount = 0.6P - 0.12P

= 0.48P

Net Discount = P - 0.48P = 0.52P

single equivalent discount = (0.52P/P) * 100

= 52 %
