A sky diver jumps out of an aeroplane, when the aeroplane was at a height of 2000 m

from the earth’s surface. Diver falls freely under the influence of gravitational force of

the earth. During his free fall, 500m above the ground, he opens his parachute and due

to air drag his speed decreases till it attains uniform velocity 5m/s. Finally, he landed

safely on the earth surface.

1. If mass of the diver is 60kg and mass of the parachute is 5kg, just after the jump

out of the aeroplane his potential energy will be (take g= 10 m/s2

)

(a) 12 x 105 J b) 13x 105

J c) 105

J d) 65 x105

J

2. After falling a distance of 500m from the aeroplane what will be the velocity of

the diver?

(a) 200 m/s b) 75 m/s c) 125m/s d) 100m/s

3. Falling by a distance of 500m from the jumping point, what fraction of total

energy would be kinetic energy?

(a) 1/4 b) 1/3 c) 3/4 d) 1/2

4. During downward journey with uniform velocity of 5m/s. Net force acting on

the diver will be

(a) 0 N b) 650N c) 600N d) 50N

5. If his parachute didn’t open, then with what kinetic energy he will reach the

ground?

(a) 12 x 105

J b)13 x 105

J c) 7062.5 J d) 65 x 105
