35

The dimensions of the slate is 35 cm by 20 cm, so if it is surrounded by a wooden frame all around, then the dimensions of the slate with the wooden frame would be 40 cm by 25 cm (because you add 2.5 cm to all four sides of the slate, which results to 5 cm increase in length and 5 cm increase in width).

The area of the slate without the wooden frame is:

  • 35 * 20 = 700 sq. cm

The area of the slate with the wooden frame is:

  • 40 * 25 = 1000 sq. cm

Therefore, the area of the wooden frame is:

  • 1000 - 700 = 300 sq. cm
