When quick lime is taken in a beaker,the following reaction will take place-
CaO(s) + H2O(l) ---> Ca(OH)2(aq)
Ca(OH)2 - Calcium Hydroxide
and the beaker, when touched, will be hot.
The solution thus formed will be colourless.

when quicklime or CaO is added to water, the following reaction takes place:
CaO+ H2O ------ใ Ca(OH)2 + heat
it forms calcium hydroxide or slaked lime and the reaction being highly exothermic the water starts to boil.
hope it helps
