Adsorption of water vapours will occur where silica gel is kept in the vessel and absorption of water vapours will occur where calcium chloride is placed.

- Silica gel is a very good adsorbent.

- So water vapour gets adsorbed on its surface.

- Anhydrous CaCl2 is hygroscopic in nature .

- So it will absorb water vapours and swells up forming  CaCl2.2H2O
