A small block of mass 1 kg is connected by a light string passing through a hole in a smooth table with a block of mass 5kg which hangs vertically. Find the angular velocity of the block on the table moving in a circle of radius 0.1 m in order to keep the other block at rest?

Answer:

Angular velocity of 1 kg mass is 22.15 rad/s

Explanation:

Here we know that mass 1 kg is revolving on smooth horizontal surface

So here centripetal force on mass 1 kg is due to tension force in the string

so we have

T = m\omega^2 R

also we know that on the other end of the string other mass is suspended at rest

So we have

T = Mg

now from above two equations we have

Mg = m\omega^2 R

5(9.81) = 1(\omega^2)(0.1)

\omega = 22.15 rad/s
