The cost of 1 apple is $ 0.5

Solution:

Let "x" be the cost of one apple

Let "y" be the cost of one orange

The system of equations below can be used to determine the cost of one apple and one orange are:

6x + 6y = 7.50 ------- eqn 1

10x + 5y = 8.75 ------ eqn 2

Multiply eqn 1 by 5

30x + 30y = 37.5 -------- eqn 3

Multiply eqn 2 by 6

60x + 30y = 52.5 -------- eqn 4

Subtract eqn 3 from eqn 4

60x + 30y = 52.5

30x + 30y = 37.5

( - ) -----------------

30x = 15

x = 0.5

Thus cost of 1 apple is $ 0.5
