Smart Village is a concept adopted by national, state and local governments of India, as an initiative focused on holistic rural development, derived from Mahatma Gandhi's vision of Adarsh Gram[1][2] (Ideal Village) and Swaraj (Self Reliance).[1][3][4][5][6][7] Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY) or SAANJHI) on 11 October 2014, Gandhi's birthday, in addition to Smart Cities" and "Digital India", as a development programme for India.[8][1][6][7][9]The Parliamentarian's Model Village Scheme main goal is for each Member of Parliament and Minister to adopt a rural village and develop it into a model by 2019 under the SAGY guidelines.[7][6] The vision of SAGY is a integrated village development plan, encompassing Personal, Human, Social, and Economic dimensions.[6][10]

Recently i visited a village Chalera for winter vacations. I visited the village after 10 years and I was astonished by the changes in the village. When I visited last it was equipped with kutcha houses and with no proper facilities of electricity, food, and shelter. However, presently it was transformed into a smart village. All the houses were converted into pakka or solid houses and were fully equipped with electricity. When I went to the farm I observed that the latest technology was in use to harvest. Also, the farmers were handed with smartphones which enabled them to be in the update with weather conditions, bank transactions and so forth. Also, in the village, many schools were built which facilitated quality education. It was fun visiting a village which was more in the urban setup.
