Given : gambler started playing a card  game with a certain amount of money. In the first  round he tripled his amount and he gave away p to

his friend. In the second round he doubled the  amount with him and gave away 3p to his friend. In  the third round he quadrupled the amount with him  and gave away  2p to his friend and was finally left  with no money.  he gave away a total of 360 to his  friend

To Find :  what was the amount of money that he  started with

Solution:

Gave to friend

p  + 3p + 2p  = 6p  = 360

=> p = 60

in last he gave 2p  = 120

and he he left with no  money

he quadrupled the amount to 120 in 3rd round

so at start of 3rd round amount was 120/4 = 30

Before 3rd round he gave  3p = 180

money after 2nd round = 180 + 30 = 210

second round he doubled the  amount with him

Hence amount at start of 2nd round = 210/2 = 105

Before 2nd round he gave   p = 60

money after 1st round = 105 + 60 = 165

first round he tripled the  amount with him

Hence amount at start of 1st round = 165/3 = 55

person started with 55

55      Gave        left

165       60        105

210       180       30

120       120        0
