  • The first kind or the bond of relationships which arises out of a  socially or defined in a legal way marital relationship is called affinal kinship, and the relatives so related arc called affinal kin.  
  • The affinal kin is those types that are not connected to each other through the blood,  which is the case with the relatives of the second kind that is shown above, who are called consanguineous kin.  
  • The relationship based on blood-tics is called consanguineous (same blood) kinship the affinal obligations in respect of ceremonial functions and gift-giving are ‘inherited’ in a manner similar to that described for south India. ‘Affinity’ is a ‘value’ in north India too.
