Total money collected= Rs. 8836
Let,number of members be x
So,money given by each= x
ATQ,
Money given by one * Total members = Total money collected
x * x = 8836
x^2 = 8836
x = √(8,836)
x = 94

So there were 94 members...ANS

Concept:

Replace the unknown mathematical quantity of the problem with variable and then form a mathematical relation or equation using given condition and variable. On solving that equation we can get the required value or quantity.

Given:

Given that, a society collected rupees 8836 each member contributing as many Rupees as there where members.

Find:

The number of members of the society.

Solution:

Let the number of members in society be = x

Given that the contribution of each member is equal to the number of member in the society.

So the contribution of each member is x rupees.

So the total collected contribution is = x*x = x^2 rupees.

According to condition, the total collected contribution from the society members is 8836 rupees.

So the required mathematical equation for this problem,

x^2=8836

x^2=94^2

x = 94, square rooting both sides of the equation

Hence the number of members of the society is 94.
