A simple definition of a day is the time it takes for a planet, satellite or other celestial body to complete one rotation about its axis, two alternative definition exist. The sidereal day is measured with respect to the stars, while the solar day is the length of time measured from noon to noon.
The time taken for the earth to rotate about its axis do that the sun appears in the same position in the sky. The time period from one noon to next noon referred to as a day or a solar day
86,400
If there are 24 hours in a day 60 minutes in an hour and 60 second in a minutes then there should be in a solar day. But, there aren't! the earth rotation is not consistent, that if we measure the length of a mean solar day, it is not consistently 86,400 second.
