A solar photovoltaic panel has an open circuit voltage of 43.6v and short circuit current of 5.45a. the maximum power that can be drawn from the panel is 175w. the maximum power occurs at a voltage of 81% of open circuit voltage. what is the optimal load resistance that needs to be connected to the terminals of the pv panel

Formula for power is :

P = VI

Where :

V = the voltage

I = Current

V = IR

I = V/R

R = resistance.

P = V²/R

81% of the open voltage circuit is :

81/100 × 43.6 = 35.316 V

P = 175 W

Doing the substitution we have :

175 = 35.316²/R

175R = 1247.22

R = 1247.22/175

R = 7.127

= 7.127 ohms
