Answer:

2940.3

Step-by-step explanation:

B sold to C at a loss of 10%= 2970

= 2970x 10/100

= 297

B purchased the watch for 2970+297= 3267

A sold the watch to B at gain of 10/100

= 3267x10/100

= 326.7

Therefore cost of watch paid by A 3267-326.7

= 2940.3

The price paid by A is Rs. 3000

Given :

  • A sold a watch to B at a gain of 10% and B sold it to C at a loss of 10%

  • C paid rupees 2970 for it

To find :

The price paid by A

Solution :

Step 1 of 2 :

Form the equation with given data

Let price paid by A = Rs. 100x

Since A sold a watch to B at a gain of 10%

So gain amount by A = Rs. 10x

Selling price by A

= Rs. 100x + Rs. 10x

= Rs. 110x

B sold it to C at a loss of 10%

So loss amount by B

\displaystyle \sf{  =Rs.  \: 110x. \frac{10}{100}   }

\displaystyle \sf{  =Rs.  \: 11x }

Selling price by B

= Price paid by C

= Rs. 110x - Rs. 11x

= Rs. 99x

So by the given condition

99x = 2970

Step 2 of 2 :

Find price paid by A

99x = 2970

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies x =  \frac{2970}{99} }

\displaystyle \sf{ \implies x =  30 }

Hence price paid by A

= Rs. 100x

= Rs. 100 × 30

= Rs. 3000
