Complete Question :- A solid cube of 6 cm has been painted red, white and blue on pairs of opposite faces it is then cut into cubical blocks of side 2 cm each . how many cubes have only one face painted red and all other faces unpainted ?
Solution :-
→ Each side of large cube = 6 cm
now,
→ Each side of smaller cube formed = 2 cm .
so,
→ Total smaller cubes formed = (6)³ / (2)³ = 216/8 = 27
now from image we can see that, one face of cube is visible which we assume red and it is divided into 9 smaller cubes .
since we have to find smaller cubes which have only face painted red .
as we can see that, only smaller cubes in middle (shaded) has 1 face red and other faces afe unpainted . { since rest 8 cubes have 2 or 3 faces red. }
therefore,
→ Total number of cubes have only one face painted red and all other faces unpainted = Both red faces = 1 + 1 = 2 (Ans.)
