Answer:

  • Upthrust = 2.695 Newton

Explanation:

Given:

  • Dimensions of solid = 10 cm × 5 cm × 5 cm
  • Density of fluid it is completely immersed in, D = 1.1 g cm⁻³

To find:

  • Upthrust on the solid =?

Formula required:

  • Formula to calculate upthrust

      U = V g D

[ Where U represent upthrust, V represent Volume, g represent acceleration due to gravity and D shows density ]

Solution:

Calculating volume of solid in m³ unit

→ Volume of solid, V = 10 cm × 5 cm × 5 cm

→ V = 250 cm³

→ V = 250 × 1/1000000  m³

V = 0.00025 m³

Calculating density of liquid in kg m⁻³ unit

→ Density, D = 1.1 g cm⁻³

→  D = [ 1.1 × 1000000 / 1000 ] kg m⁻³

→  D = 1.1 × 1000 kg m⁻³

→  D = 110 kg m⁻³

Calculating the Upthrust on the solid

→ U = V g D

( taking acceleration of gravity = 9.8 m/s² )

→ U = ( 0.00025 ) · ( 9.8 ) · ( 110 )

U = 2.695 N

Therefore,

  • Magnitude of upthrust on the solid will be 2.695 Newtons.

Answer :-

★ The Upthrust on the Solid will be

= 2.695 Newtons

★ Concept :

Here the concept of Upthrust is used. When an object is partly or completely submerged in other substance it receives a pressure on its bottom surface which is greater than the pressure given on top surface. The pressure on top surface is die to atmosphere and on the bottom surface is due to the pressure exerted by the other substance.

★ Solution :-

Given,

▶Dimensions of the solid = 10cm × 5cm × 5cm

▶Density of the liquid, D = 1.1 g/cm³

________________________________

Firstly let us convert the given Density into standard form that is in kg/m³.

✒ Density, D = 1.1 g/cm³

✒ Density = {(1.1 × 1000000)/1000} Kg/m³

Cancelling the numerator and denominator, we get,

✒ Density = 1.1 × 1000 Kg/m³

✒ Density, D = 1100 Kg/m³

Here we get density in our standard form.

________________________________

Now let us find the volume of the solid. This is given by :-

✒ Volume of the solid, V = 10 cm × 5 cm × 5 cm

✒ Volume of solid, V = 250 cm³

Here we got our Volume also. Let us convert this into standard form.

✒ 250 cm³ = 250 / 1000000 m³ = 0.00025 m³

Hence, we get Volume also in standard form.

Now here we are going to use the formula,

=> U = V × g × D

where, U is the upthrust, V is the volume, g is the acceleration due to gravity and D is density of liquid.

(Here we are going to use the standard form of acceleration due to gravity that is 9.8 m/sec².)

By applying the values, we got into the formula, we get,

✏ U = (0.00025) × (9.8) × (1100)

✏ U = 2.695 Newton

Since, Upthrust is a kind of force only, we are using the unit Newton.

Hence, the Upthrust faced by solid = 2.695 N

More to know :-

• First of all this answer is correct. We can check by applying dimensional quantities.

We know that, Upthrust is a Force.

» Upthrust = [(M L)/T²] = (Kg m / sec²)

Here,we are doing,

V × g × D = (m³) × (m/sec²) × (Kg/m³)

= (Kg m/sec²)

By doing this as dimensional formula, we get,

=> kg m/sec² = [(M L) / T²]

Hence, our answer is correct.

Force may be defined as an agency (a push or pull) which changes or tends to change the state of rest or of uniform motion or the direction of motion of a body.
