A solid is in the form of a right circular cylinder, with a hemisphere at one end andi cone at the other end. The radius of the common base is 3.5 cm and the heights of cylindrical and conical portions are 10 cm. And 6 cm, respectively. Find the area of the solid. (use = 22/7)

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

To get the area of this shape we need to highlight the necessary formulas.

We should also note that for the cylindrical part and the conical part we need only the curved surface areas.

The formulas are as follows :

Curved surface area of a cylinder = 2πrh

Curved surface area of a cone = 2πrl

Area of a hemisphere = 2πr²

Doing the substitutions we have :

Area of curved surface of a cylinder :

22/7 × 2 × 3.5 × 10 = 220 cm²

Curved Surface are of a cone:

We first need to get the lateral length of the cone.

l = √(6² + 3.5²)

l = 6.946

Curved surface area is :

22/7 × 2 × 3.5 × 6.946 = 152.812 cm²

Area of the hemispherical part is :

2 × 22/7 × 3.5² = 77 cm²

The total area is given by :

77 + 220 + 152.812 = 449.812 cm²
