In the rod

r= 0.5cm

h=8cm

In the wire

r= ?

h=18cm

so now

\pi r1^{2} h1 = \pi r2^{2} h2

\pi gets cancelled on both sides so now

0.25*8 = r2^{2}* 18

r2^{2} = 2/18

     =1/9

r2   = \sqrt[2]{1/9}

r2= 1/3 cm

thickness = 2*1/3

                =2/3

                = 2/3 cm

∴thickness of the wire is 2/3cm or 0.667
