Thus the value of maximum velocity is v = 16.9 m/s

Explanation:

  • When the sphere rolls down:
  • The potential energy changes to K.E. of rotation.
  • Thus we can say that:
  • K.E  = P.E

1 / 2 m v^2 ( 1 + k^2 / k^2) = m g h

v = √  2 g h ( 1 + k^2 k^2)

Moment of inertia of solid sphere =25 MR^2

k^2 = 2 / 5 R^2

v = √ 2 g h / 1 + 2 / 5

v = √  2 g h x 5 / 7

v = √ 2 x 10  20 x 5 / 7

v = √ 285.714

v = 16.9 m/s

Thus the value of maximum velocity is v = 16.9 m/s
