Given:

w = 1.2 gm

W = 50 gm

Tb = 350 K

Tb' = 350.5 K

Kb = 5 K kg/mol

To Find:

Molecular weight of the solid.

Calculation:

- We know that the elevation in boiling point is given as:

ΔTb = Kb × m

⇒ (Tb' - Tb) = Kb × (w × 1000)/(M.wt × W)

⇒ (350.5 - 350) = 5 × (1.2 × 1000)/(M.wt × 50)

⇒ 0.5 = 5 × (1.2 × 20)/ M.wt

⇒ M.wt = 120/0.5

M.wt = 240 gm

- So, the molecular mass of the solute is 240 gm.
