A solution contains 35 g of sugar and 15 g of sodium chloride salt in 450 mL of water. Calculate
the mass per cent of
(a) sugar (b) sodium chloride salt (density of water = 1 g /mL).

Total Mass of a Solution = mass Of water + mass of NaCl + mass of Sugar

                                         = 450g + 35g + 15g

                                        =  500g

(a) Mass Percent Of Sugar =  Mass of sugar/Total Mass Of solution ×100%

                                            =  35/500 × 100%

                                            =  7%

(b) Mass Percent of Nacl = Mass of Nacl/Total Mass of Solution × 100%

                                         = 15/500 × 100%

                                        =  3%
