Mass of salt = 40g
Mass of water = 320g
Therefore, mass of solution = mass of salt + mass of water
= 40g + 320g
= 360g

Hence,
Percentage by the mass of salt in solution = mass of salt / mass of solution × 100
= 40g/360g × 100
= 1/9×100
= 100/9
= 11.11 %
