A solution contains 40ml of ethyl alcohol mixed with 100ml of water. What is the concentration of this solution? Also, find out mass of ethyl alcohol required to make a solution of the same concentration.

Answer:

Volume of solute (ethanol): 40 ml

Volume of solvent (water): 100 ml

∴ Volume of solution = 40+100 = 140 ml  

Concentration = Volume of solute / Volume of solution

                       = 40 / 140  × 100

                      = 28.59 % (approx.)
