A solution contains 5 ml of alcohol mixed with 75 ml of water. Calculate the concentration of the solution in terms of volume percent.

Volume % of solution is calculated as follows:

volume of solute(5ml alcohol in this case)                  x 100%

volume of the solution formed( water plus alcohol= 80 ml)

=      5ml/ 80ml     x 100 %  =  25/ 4    =  6.25%

      volume concentration  =  6.25%
