QUESTION

a solution contains 50g of sugar in 450g of water. calculate the concentration in terms of mass percentage of WATER.

ANSWER.

mass of solute = 50g

mass of solvent = 350g

mass of solution = 50 + 350 = 400g

mass by mass% = mass of solute / mass of solution

mass by mass = 50/400 * 100

= 100/8

= 12.5%

mass by mass % = 12.5%
