Mass/Mass percentage = Mass of solute/ Mass of solution * 100
Solute mass= 40 gms
solution mass= solvent mass + solute mass= 100 +40 gms= 140 gms
mass/mass percent= 40/140 * 100 = 28.57%

mass %= (weight of the solute/total weight of the solution)×100
given weight of sugar =40gm
weight of water =100gm
total weight of the solution =100+40=140
therefore mass%=(40/140)×100=28.5
