Given :

➳ Mass of solute = 2g

➳ Mass of solution = 18g

To Find :

➨ Mass percentage of solute.

Solution :

Name : Mass percentage

Symbol : %w/W

Definition : Amount of solute in grams present in 100g of solution.

Effect of temperature : No effect

Formula :

\bigstar\:\underline{\boxed{\tt{\%\dfrac{w}{W}=\dfrac{Mass\:of\:solute}{Total\:mass\:of\:solution}\times 100}}}\\ \\ \longrightarrow\tt\:\%\dfrac{w}{W}=\dfrac{2}{2+18}\times 100\\ \\ \longrightarrow\tt\:\%\dfrac{w}{W}=\dfrac{2}{20}\times 100\\ \\ \longrightarrow\underline{\boxed{\bf{\%\dfrac{w}{W}=10\%}}}

QUESTION :-

A solution is prepared by adding 2 gram of substance in 18 gram of water. Calculate the mass percetage of solute?

ANSWER :-

Given,

The mass of solute is 2 gram

The mass of solvent is 18 gram

The mass of solution is (18 + 2) gram = 20 gram

Now,

We know the formula -

mass \: percentage \: of \: solute \: = \frac{mass \: of \: solute \: }{mass \: of \: solution} \times 100 \\

Now,

Using formula of mass percentage of solute-

Mass \: percentage \: of \: solute = \frac{2gram}{20gram} \times 100 \: \\ \\ Mass \: percentage \: of \: solute = \frac{1}{10} \times 100 \\ \\ Mass \: percentage \: of \: solute = \: 10\%

Hence, Mass percentage of solute = 10 %
