A solution is prepared by dissolving 40 gram of sugar in 460 gram of water calculate the mass percentage of the solution .

Mass (solute) = 40 gram

Mass (solvent) = 460 gram

Mass (solution) = Mass (solute) + Mass (solvent)

                         = 40 gram + 460 gram

                         = 500 gram

∴ Mass % (solution) = [ Mass (solute)/Mass (solvent)] × 100

                                 = [40/500] × 100

                                 = 8.0 %
