A solution of copper sulphate was kept in a iron pot after few days the iron pot was found to have no of holes in it .Explain the reaction with the help of chemical equation.

this reaction is displacement reaction.here copper sulphate is more reactive that iron

When copper solution is kept in iron pot then we can find some holes in pot because:

the standard electrode potential for fe2+ / fe is more negative than that up Cu2+ / Cu . the iron oxidises first while copper ions are reduced.
