Given that,

A solution of HNO_{3} is 5%.

Let the volume of solution is x.

We know that,

Density of solution :

Density of solution is equal to the mass of solution divided by volume of solution.

In mathematically form,

\rho=\dfrac{M}{V}

Put the value into the formula

1.4=\dfrac{100}{x}

x=\dfrac{100}{1.4}

x=71.4\ ml

We need to calculate the mass of HNO₃ present in 100 ml

Using formula for mass of HNO₃

For, 71.4 ml = 5g of HNO₃

100\ ml = \dfrac{100\times5}{71.4}

100\ ml =7.00\ g

Hence, Mass of HNO₃ present in 100 ml of solution is 7g.
