a solution of slaked lime is used for white washing.after two or three days of white washing a shiny finish to the walls appears.why? explain with proper equation.​

When a solution of slaked lime is applied to the wall, calcium hydroxide reacts slowly with carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere to form a thin layer of calcium carbonate on the walls. The formation of calcium carbonate on walls may take two to three days. Layer of calcium carbonate thus formed gives a shiny finish to the wall.

Ca (OH)2 + CO2 -- CaCO3
