x is CaO or Calcium oxide which is also called slaked lime. It is used for white washing.
It forms CaOH or Calcium Hydroxide and heat is evolved. Hence it is an exothermic reaction
The equation is given below.
2CaO + H2O → 2CaOH
This is an exothermic reaction.

Compound X is Calcium Oxide which is also called as quick lime.
Calcium Oxide reacts with water to produce calcium hydroxide and a lot of heat is released.
CaO + H2O ----> Ca (OH)2 + Heat
Ca ( OH)2 , thus produced is basic in nature . Which can be tested with litmus test. Red litmus will change to blue.
Calcium hydroxide is applied as white wash on walls. After 2 or 3 days we get shining and white colour on walls due to the following reaction:
Ca (OH)2 + CO2 ----> CaCO3 + H2O
