A solution of slaked lime used for testing CO2.

Ca(OH)2+CO2=>CaCO3+H2O

CaCO3 is the precipitate formed showing the presence of CO2

Here X is Ca(OH)2

SUCH AS

CO2 + Ca(OH)2 ==> CaCO3 + H2O
Milky in colour

When CO2 passes in excess then product becomes colourless such as

CaCO3 + H2O + CO2 ==> Ca(HCO3)2
Colourless

Thus this is how CO2 is tested by milky and colourless product.
