A solution that can withstand changes in its pH level when an alkali acid is added to it is called a buffer solution.

Explanation:

A buffer solution comprises either a "weak acid" with "its conjugate base" or a strong base with its conjugate acid.

When an alkali is added to a "buffer solution", the conjugate acid neutralizes the effect of the strong base and therefore there is no change in the pH. When a string acid is added, the conjugate base neutralizes the effect of the acid added thereby not bringing about any change in the pH of the solution.
