PANNA'S SACRIFICE
Uday Singh was only a child of six when Banabir sat on the throne of Mewar. In order to make his throne safe, Banabir decided to kill this young prince.
A little after nightfall Uday had gone to bed. His nurse Panna was waiting upon him. Her own son Chandan was sleeping on another bed. There was silence all around.
Suddenly Banabir entered the room with a knife in hand. Panna trembled in fear.
'Where is Uday?', cried out the cruel fellow. Panna's lips would not part. The mother in her was up. But she had no time to lose. She pointed her finger at the bed where her own son was sleeping.
Banabir at once rushed towards the bed. For a moment the mother's eyes closed. When they reopened the boy lay lifeless in a pool of blood. Tears rushed out from the depth of the mother's heart. But Panna had no time to shed tears even for her own son. She could not rest content until she had sent the prince to a place of safety.
Thus Panna saved the young prince at the sacrifice of her own son.
