A son's present age is half the present age of his mother 10 years ago the mother was thrice as old as her son what are their present ages

Let son's present age be x
so, his mother present age=2x

10 years ago,
son age=x-10
mother age=2x-10
ATQ (ACCORDING TO QUESTION)

2x-10=3(x-10)
2x-10=3x-30
2x-3x=-30+10
-x=-20
x=20 (minus sign will be cancelled)

so, x=20
mother present age=2*20=40years

son present age=20years
