A sonar device on a submarine send out a signal and receives an echo 5 sec later. he speed of sound in water if the distance of the object from the submarine is 3625 m.

Speed = Distance/Time

If Time = 5 s, 

Then, total Distance travelled by sonar waves during transmission and reception in water = 2 x 3625 m = 7250 m

Therefore,

Speed = 7250/5 = 1450 m/s
