Given:

Length of a sonometer = 50cm , Mass = 3.5 kg and Fundamental Frequency = 125Hz.

To Find:

The linear density of the wire.

Solution:

Tension =  m * g

= 3.5 * 9.8

=34.3 N

Fundamental Frequency (n) = \frac{1}{2l}\sqrt{\frac{T}{m} }

⇒ Linear density m = \frac{T}{4l^{2}n^{2}  }

= \frac{34.3}{4*0.5^{2} *125^{2} }

=\frac{34.3}{15625}

= 2.195 * 10^-3 kg/m.

∴ The linear density of the wire is 2.195 * 10^-3 kg/m.
