Let the age of son be x and mother be y, then according to question

x = y/2  ⇒  2x - y = 0                            ...........(1)

3(x-10) = (y-10)

 3x - 30 = y -10

   3x - y = 20                                        .............(2)
________________________________________________________

From (1) and (2)

(1)   ⇒  2x - y = 0

(2)   ⇒  3x - y = 20
             (-)  (+)   (-)

                   -x = -20
                   _______

Then x = 20 yrs and so y = 40 yrs
